Enclosure Ridge Fence Removal

The southern Nevada team headed out to the Desert National Wildlife Refuge February 28 through March 3 to remove the last of a ten-foot tall barbed wire fence. The fence - along Enclosure Ridge - obstructed Bighorn Sheep from accessing water sources.

The crew hauled fence posts and rolls of barbed wire over 2 miles through the refuge. Each load weighed between 45 and 65 pounds.

Matt Flores from GBI joined the SCA interns and Friends staff for the project. Volunteers on Alternative Spring Break 2011 worked on pulling out the fence, and the southern team - along with volunteers - have come out to the Desert Refuge multiple times over the past year to get the last of the fence out.
