Griffith Peak Re-Route Project

Friends of Nevada Wilderness, the Student Conservation Association interns under the Southern Nevada Agency Partnership, and over 20 volunteers will be working over the next ten days to re-route the trail to the summit of Griffith Peak, the third highest mountain in the Spring Mountains.

Some will be camping out along the trail while others will come up to help for a day or bring up supplies.

A pack string will bring up water for the trail crew.

And they're off! Check back for regular updates on the team's progress!

National Public Lands Day Events

Sunrise on the Black Rock Playa (photo by Brian Beffort)

Friends of Nevada Wilderness will be participating in multiple events for National Public Lands Day across the state. In northern Nevada, FNW will be leading a restoration trip to the Black Rock area September 17-19. Nevada Outdoor School will be hosting a kids’ camp to teach the younger campers about conservation and the environment while FNW puts the grown-ups to work. To preserve the playa's natural beauty, we will be building fences to keep off-highway vehicles out of protected areas and removing debris. Interested in joining us? Call (775) 324-7667.

Bonanza Extravaganza 10/31/09

Happy Nevada Day!!!

A fun group of Wild southern Nevada volunteers got together to celebrate Nevada Day by getting some trail work accomplished on the Bonanza Trail in the Mt Charleston Wilderness. The highlight of the day was when we got to break out the two person crosscut saw and remove a down tree that was across the trail. WooHoo...good folks, Nevada Day, crosscut saws, double headed axes it just doesn't get any better than that.
Special thanks to all of the volunteers that gave up their Saturday to help take care of their Public Lands.
